Train Collides with Car Transporter in Texas, No Injuries Reported
A potentially disastrous crash in Schertz, Texas, ended surprisingly well when a train struck a lorry carrying new cars — yet no one was injured. Despite the collision scattering vehicles across the tracks and causing hours of disruption, all those involved escaped unharmed.
According to reports, a Union Pacific freight train hit the transporter after it became stuck on a railway crossing. MySanAntonio.com wrote that the trailer halted on the tracks just moments before the train arrived. The locomotive engineer saw the obstruction and sounded the horn but could not stop in time, as freight trains require several hundred metres to come to a halt.
Police said the train did not derail, though the truck and its trailer sustained heavy damage. A witness told the Express-News that “the lorry just seemed to get stuck — it didn’t have enough momentum to clear the incline, and the trailer ended up halfway across the tracks.” The impact flung several cars from the transporter “like toys”, though thankfully no fire broke out.
Authorities are investigating why the driver stopped on the crossing and whether the incident was caused by a technical failure or a driving error.
