Wheel Flew Off, Train Came In: Off-Duty Officer Saves Stranded Youths from Oncoming Train
A routine drive took a dramatic turn when a group of young passengers found themselves stuck on a railway crossing after a wheel detached from their car. Just like a poorly scripted action film, the sound of a train whistle soon cut through the air.
No one is ever really trained for moments like that. Panic set in among the boys as the train drew closer. But fate had placed an off-duty police officer nearby. Reacting faster than most computers could save a game, he stopped his own car, ran over, and helped push the stranded vehicle off the tracks with the terrified youngsters before the train arrived.
Thanks to their quick teamwork, everyone escaped unharmed. The car, however, was badly damaged and had to be towed away.
According to a Katowice police spokesperson, the heroic officer wished to remain anonymous, insisting that anyone would have done the same. Perhaps. But in reality, few people would sprint onto a railway line when a train is already on its way.
Sometimes it takes just one person and a few seconds to turn an ordinary day into something worth remembering.
