Chery’s Fulwin X3L stunt ends in a marketing fiasco

Chery tried to showcase the capability of its Fulwin X3L on the legendary 999 steps of Tianmen Mountain. The plan collapsed almost instantly. The car slipped on the wet, steep staircase, skated backwards and smashed into a metal barrier. Footage hit social media within minutes and triggered the obvious question, why anyone thought a crowded and hazardous landmark was the right stage for a PR spectacle.

The company’s initial investigation points to a failure in the safety line. Its mounting pulled free from the anchor and tangled itself around the right wheel. That cut power, locked the drivetrain and sent the car sliding. Nobody was hurt, although Chery says it will pay for the damage and accept full responsibility.

The firm admits it underestimated the risks and chose the wrong location for a demonstration of this kind. In short, physics delivered a swift and very public reality check to the marketing department.
