What should have been a moment of pride on Turkey’s Black Sea coast turned into instant embarrassment. In the port of Zonguldak, the brand-new yacht Dolce Vento — valued at $1.4 million — capsized just minutes after being launched for its maiden voyage.

The incident, caught on a bystander’s phone on September 2, shows the vessel sliding smoothly into the water before suddenly losing balance and rolling onto its side. The short inaugural trip, meant to celebrate the yacht’s completion, instead became a public disaster.

Zonguldak, better known as a tranquil tourist destination, unexpectedly found itself trending online as the video went viral, provoking both schadenfreude and questions about how such a fundamental mishap could happen.

One certainty remains: the name Dolce Vento — “sweet wind” in Italian — will now be remembered less for dreams of carefree sailing and more for a bitterly ironic debut.
