Opel Puts Corsa and Mokka to the Test at the Mont-Blanc Rally
Held September 5–6, the Mont-Blanc Morzine Rally marks the fifth round of the all-electric one-make series and one of the season’s decisive showdowns. Just 14 points separate the top three drivers, and with 105 points still up for grabs before the finale, nobody can afford a misstep.
Away from the championship fight, Opel is using the rally as a showcase for its new Mokka GSE Rally, making its debut on Mont-Blanc’s mountain roads. Developed to FIA eRally5 regulations, it delivers 207 kW (280 hp) — a significant leap over the 100 kW Corsa Cup cars. To keep the debut low-risk, the Mokka will run as the “zero car,” driven by rising star Calle Carlberg, already a European champion at just 23.
The event spans nine special stages, covering 129 competitive kilometers over two days.
Manufacturers pitch electric rallying as a “sustainable” and “innovative” alternative to combustion-powered motorsport. The real challenge is whether shorter distances and limited stage formats can convince traditional rally fans. The Mont-Blanc backdrop provides a spectacular stage for Opel’s PR push, but the deeper question remains: can the sport truly evolve without the smell of petrol, or will these outings remain little more than factory demonstrations?
