In Estonia, a 27-year-old man’s rush down the highway ended not at his destination but in a courtroom, where his reckless driving earned him a lesson in responsibility.
The court heard the driver’s explanation and decided his understanding of traffic laws needed a reset. He was sentenced to 10 days in a regimented detention facility, along with a six-month driving ban. Once that period expires, he will be required to retake both the theory and practical driving exams administered by the Transport Administration before regaining his license.
The judge emphasized that speeding is never justifiable. On Estonia’s compact road network, the minimal time saved cannot outweigh the risks posed to the driver and to others on the road.
