









































Zeekr 7X: A Software-Defined SUV That Promises Much but Still Has to Prove Itself
Geely’s electric brand Zeekr has launched the 7X, a new five-seat mid-size electric SUV now on sale in Australia. It is clearly an ambitious bid to take on the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai IONIQ 5 and other so-called “premium” EVs, but there are still plenty of “wait and see” questions lurking behind the brochure copy.
The flagship version sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, while single-motor variants claim up to 615 km of WLTP range. That figure, however, is likely to translate to a more realistic 450–500 km in mixed urban and highway driving. On paper, the 800V architecture with 450 kW charging capacity impresses, and Zeekr says a 10–80% charge takes 13 minutes on a 360 kW fast charger. In practice, though, such chargers are far from common in Australia — and even less so in Europe.
Inside, the 7X promises full-size SUV space, powered front and rear doors, massaging front seats and a “digital sanctuary” feel. The tech suite is anchored by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip and a 16-inch central display aiming to catch up with the latest infotainment systems from Lucid, Mercedes and BMW. A 36-inch AR display is available at extra cost — at least in theory, an eye-catching proposition.
The safety and driver-assist roster is long but not groundbreaking: 12 cameras, radar, adaptive cruise control, automated parking and a 3D surround view are already standard fare in today’s top-tier EVs.
Pricing starts at AUD 57,900 (around €35,000 before taxes) and rises to AUD 72,900 (around €44,000). It is an aggressive pitch, but as a newcomer to the Australian market, Zeekr has to offer more than just competitive numbers. A seven-year warranty, free charging cables and a home charger for the first 1,000 orders are part of the sweetener package.
