Xiaomi’s Electric Car Sets New Record at Nürburgring – The Electric Race Continues

Xiaomi has set a new record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with its electric SU7 Ultra Prototype, achieving a time of 6 minutes and 46.874 seconds, marking the fastest lap for a four-door electric vehicle. Xiaomi’s goal is to progressively move towards breaking production model records, although this vehicle is still a prototype with only limited technical details publicly available.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype is equipped with a tri-motor drivetrain, reaching a total power output of 1,548 horsepower – equivalent to a combination of two V8 and one V6 motors. Thanks to this setup, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.97 seconds and can reach speeds of over 350 km/h. With a racing-inspired design, the SU7 features a carbon fiber body, powerful brakes, and an aerodynamic profile that provides over two tons of additional downforce.

Although the record has been set, comparing it to existing production models is somewhat premature – for instance, the Rimac Nevera still holds the production model record with a time of 7 minutes and 5.3 seconds. Xiaomi plans to unveil a production-ready model next year, though its performance will likely be scaled down from the prototype, and production may be limited. Nonetheless, it will remain an exclusive and high-value vehicle, one not accessible to all – even Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun admitted he could not afford one himself.

Nürburgring has always been a true testing ground for car manufacturers, and Xiaomi EV accepted this challenge deliberately. Xiaomi’s R&D team was stationed on-site, conducting continuous testing and tuning to optimize the SU7 Ultra Prototype’s performance and durability. While the achieved record is significant, Xiaomi must continue refining its technology and will conduct further tests at Nürburgring in the coming years.
