Swedish automaker Volvo has wrapped up its 2024 results and unveiled ambitious plans for 2025. The past year was a success for the company, with sales climbing 8% to 175,000 vehicles. Demand for electric vehicles surged by 54%, while net profit reached €1.37 billion—an impressive 13% increase compared to 2023. Looking to sustain this momentum, Volvo is gearing up to introduce three new models: the all-electric ES90 sedan, the EX60 crossover, and a hybrid model tailored for the Chinese market.

ES90 – Volvo’s Flagship Electric Sedan
Volvo has already teased the first images of the ES90, a next-generation electric sedan that will replace the S90 and take on rivals like the BMW i5, Mercedes-Benz EQE, and Audi A6 e-tron. Built on the SPA2 (Scalable Product Architecture) platform, co-developed with Chinese automotive giant Geely, the ES90 shares much of its technology with the EX90 but follows the design language of the compact EX30.

The sedan measures 4.99 meters in length, 1.94 meters in width, and 1.54 meters in height, with a generous wheelbase exceeding 3.1 meters. Powering the ES90 is a 111 kWh battery, with output options ranging from 279 to 517 horsepower. Buyers will have the choice between rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.

EX60 – The New Electric Crossover
Another major reveal is the EX60, which will take over from the XC60 and be built on Volvo’s all-new SPA3 platform. This next-gen architecture enhances the SPA2 foundation with Volvo Cars’ advanced Superset computing system, delivering improved data processing and greater flexibility across different models.

Designed to compete directly with the Tesla Model Y, the EX60 aims to blend premium comfort with cutting-edge innovation, offering an upscale driving experience in the electric crossover segment.

V446 – A Hybrid for the Chinese Market
Volvo’s third major debut for 2025 is a hybrid model developed specifically for China, known internally by the codename V446. While official details remain under wraps, leaks suggest the vehicle shares its technical underpinnings with the Lynk & Co 08, which is based on the CMA platform.

The Lynk & Co 08 boasts a 593-horsepower powertrain and a CATL-supplied 40 kWh battery, delivering an impressive driving range of up to 1,200 kilometers. The V446 will reportedly feature software developed by Meizu, the Chinese tech company acquired by Geely in 2022. Production of the hybrid model will take place in Taizhou, China.
