The New GR Supra Is, in Reality, a Mazda
According to multiple Japanese sources, Toyota engineers are already working on the next generation of the GR Supra. However, insiders report that Mazda specialists are soon expected to join the project. At the same time, Mazda is developing its own sports car, which is poised to become the ideological successor to the legendary RX-7.
The original Mazda RX-7 was renowned for its unique rotary engine, but the upcoming sports car is set to take a completely different path. Rumors suggest that it will be equipped with an inline-six engine, though it remains uncertain whether this will be an entirely new power unit or a modified version of Mazda’s SkyActiv engine series.
Additionally, Mazda is sharing its expertise with Toyota’s engineers, who are in the process of developing the next GR Supra. This collaboration signifies the strengthening of the Japanese manufacturers' alliance, which has now been active for nearly eight years.
This is far from the first instance of technological synergy between the two companies. In the past, Toyota and Mazda have exchanged engineering innovations and even co-produced models. Given that their manufacturing plants and production capacities are already partially integrated, this latest partnership is expected to proceed smoothly.
The next-generation Toyota Supra is rumored to feature a hybrid powertrain, combining a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor, delivering increased performance and improved efficiency for the iconic sports car.
