Tesla Aims to Regain Ground in China With Model 3+ Long Range Promising 830 Kilometres
Falling sales have pushed Tesla to act, launching a model capable of standing up to local competition. Orders have opened in China for the Model 3+ Long Range, which instantly became the flagship of the brand’s local line-up in terms of range. Under the CLTC test cycle, the rear-wheel-drive Model 3+ can cover up to 830 kilometres on a single charge.
The secret is not some breakthrough in aerodynamics, but a larger battery. The 78.4 kWh NMC unit, supplied by LG Energy Solution, delivers significantly more energy than the standard rear-wheel-drive Model 3. Performance has improved as well: 0–100 km/h now takes just 5.2 seconds — exactly one second quicker than the base version — thanks to a 225 kW (302 hp) rear motor, up 31 kW, with the motor type changed from 3D7 to 3D6.
Dimensionally, it is the same Model 3 — 4,720 mm long, 1,848 mm wide, 1,442 mm high, with a 2,875 mm wheelbase — but Tesla has sweetened the deal for Chinese buyers. Perks include an ¥8,000 (about €8,500) insurance subsidy, free paint colour upgrade, up to five years of interest-free financing, complimentary activation of the “Intelligent Driving” package, and discounted charging services.
The Model 3+ is also listed for official tax exemption, bringing further savings. At the same time, the all-wheel-drive Model 3 Performance has been updated, its CLTC range rising from 623 km to 647 km while keeping the price unchanged at ¥339,500.
