Suzuki e Vitara brings electric power to a Japanese off road nameplate

Suzuki pulled the covers off the e Vitara, the brand’s first fully electric production model. Built on the new HEARTECT e platform, the compact SUV aims to combine Suzuki’s long standing all wheel drive know how with contemporary digital tech. European sales begin in spring 2026.

Rather than settling for front wheel drive as many rivals do in this class, Suzuki introduces ALLGRIP e. The system uses two separate electric motors, one on each axle, delivering response times no mechanical transfer case can match.

Three versions, up to 184 horsepower

The entry level Suzuki e Vitara features a 49 kWh battery and produces 106 kW, or 144 horsepower, with 193 Nm of torque. It targets urban drivers who want modest running costs and sufficient punch for daily commuting.

Step up to the 61 kWh battery with front wheel drive and output rises to 128 kW, or 174 horsepower. Suzuki claims up to 427 kilometres of range under the WLTP cycle, placing it firmly among the more practical compact electric SUVs.

The flagship pairs the 61 kWh battery with dual motor all wheel drive. Combined output stands at 135 kW, or 184 horsepower, and 307 Nm of torque. A dedicated Trail mode mimics a locking differential by redirecting torque from a slipping wheel to one with grip. It is a digital solution to an old school problem.

Designed for adventure, not excess

Suzuki calls the design language High Tech and Adventure. At 4.27 metres long, the e Vitara is slightly longer than the petrol powered Suzuki Vitara. A 2.7 metre wheelbase translates into noticeably improved cabin space.

Inside, a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1 inch infotainment display sit together under a single glass panel. The layout feels modern without drifting into excess.

Suzuki opted for lithium iron phosphate batteries, known for durability and thermal stability. For buyers planning to keep the car for more than a decade, that choice matters. A heat pump comes as standard, an essential feature in colder climates where sub zero temperatures can quickly erode range.

Ground clearance of 180 millimetres and the ALLGRIP e system should ensure that snowy side streets and gravel tracks remain manageable rather than intimidating.

The e Vitara does not attempt to masquerade as a luxury product. Suzuki’s pitch is simpler. Offer complex technology in a straightforward, robust package. The formula may be electric, but the philosophy remains familiar.
