The Czech Electric Rocket Just Took Off Its Tie and Hit the Gym
Škoda — yes, that brand you probably associate with beige family wagons, an elderly relative in the back, and enough boot space for a year’s supply of potatoes — has done something completely unexpected. They’ve launched their fastest production car ever. And no, it’s not some V8-powered track-day screamer. It’s a fully electric SUV, and its name is Elroq vRS.
Powered by two electric motors pumping out 340 horsepower, the Elroq vRS rockets from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds. That’s flirting with PovRSche territory. And if you’re thinking, “Well, it’s just a slightly quicker Škoda,” think again — this is officially the most dynamic car the brand has ever built. Where the old Octavia vRS was the wheezy kid in PE class, the Elroq vRS is the one handing out protein shakes and workout plans.
Underneath, there’s an 84 kWh battery offering over 550 km of range without needing a recharge. And when the electrons do run dry, a 185 kW fast charger takes it from 10% to 80% in around 26 minutes — roughly the same time it takes to scarf down a petrol station pastry with a lukewarm coffee. Which is fine, because this car is doing the cardio for you.
Visually, it’s all black accents, up to 21-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights up front and scrolling indicators at the back — it’s like Škoda finally realised that practical and good-looking don’t have to live on separate continents. Sport suspension? Of course. Lowered? Naturally. And if that’s not enough, you can spec DCC adaptive dampers, so your Škoda can ride like a limo or carve corners like a hot hatch, depending on your mood (or playlist).
Inside, it’s business and pleasure: a 13-inch infotainment screen, massaging driver’s seat, three-zone climate control, and a charming little 5-inch digital cluster that does its best to look busy. You also get wireless charging, a head-up display, and a 12-speaker sound system that makes even Dvořák’s symphonies feel like a rave at an art museum.
Oh, and to top it all off? It comes with sound simulation — you can choose between Sport and Futuristic. Because let’s face it: if it doesn’t make noise, how do you even know you’re going fast?
