Škoda Kylaq: A New Compact SUV for the Indian Market
Škoda Auto has commenced series production of its new Škoda Kylaq at the Pune plant in India. The model made its world debut in early November in Mumbai, and the first vehicles will be delivered to local customers in January next year. This compact SUV is the third Škoda vehicle to be both developed and manufactured locally, specifically for the Indian market.
The Škoda Kylaq is built on the MQB A0-IN platform, developed in collaboration between Czech and Indian engineers. This platform allows for the production of compact and affordable vehicles. It is also used for other India-specific models, such as the Škoda Kushaq and the Slavia sedan.
The 1.0 TSI turbocharged engine delivers up to 85 kW of power and is available with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The trunk offers a capacity of 446 liters. Standard equipment includes over 25 active and passive safety features, including six airbags.
The Kylaq is the first Škoda model in India to feature the brand's new Modern Solid design language. The name "Kylaq" was chosen through a public voting process, with over 24,000 people submitting their suggestions. Inspired by Mount Kailash, the name comes from a Sanskrit word meaning "crystal."
