No More Trade-Offs: Scania’s Super 11 Turns Efficiency Into an Edge

Scania is launching the new Super 11 engine squarely into the gap where hauliers have long had to choose between power and lightness. This 11-litre workhorse slots between the company’s existing 9- and 13-litre engines, aimed at those who count both litres and tonnes but refuse to compromise on reliability.

Weighing in at about 85 kilograms less than its bigger sibling, the Super 13, the Super 11 benefits from modern engineering to deliver up to 7% better fuel efficiency than Scania’s 9-litre unit. That translates to greater payload capacity and a smaller environmental footprint, all without sacrificing performance. Three power ratings:350, 390 and 430 horsepower cover the spectrum from urban logistics to more demanding regional operations.

On the tech front, Scania has thrown in everything it’s refined in recent years: variable valve timing, one of the most effective engine brakes in its class (up to 344 kW), a fresh control system and components designed to dampen vibration. The engine is also compatible with renewable fuels like HVO and FAME and helps reduce AdBlue consumption. The result is noticeable daily savings and extended maintenance intervals—up to 30% longer than with the previous 9-litre engine.

Super 11 is an ideal fit for trucks where weight, compactness and efficiency are mission-critical, whether it’s a tipper, tanker or rescue vehicle. Sales begin in June 2025, targeting hauliers who know that performance and weight don’t always have to be at odds.
