Renault Trafic Escapade: a Van for Those With More Space in Their Soul Than in Their Garage
Renault is expanding its “take off into the wild for a week” collection with the updated Trafic Escapade, set to reach showrooms in early 2026. The van made its public debut at the Van Life Expo in Bordeaux, where freedom-seekers saw how an ordinary panel van can transform into a surprisingly complete micro-apartment on wheels.
Renault didn’t stop at simply adding a fold-out bed. This time, the Trafic Escapade gained a compact kitchen module designed for those who prefer cooking pasta in the woods to sipping instant noodles from a thermos.
The new unit includes:
• a built-in gas hob,
• a folding sink with a spray tap,
• a 5-litre water tank,
• and smart storage for everything that would otherwise roll around the cabin.
Two trim levels will be available — Evolution and Iconic. Optional extras include 17-inch alloy wheels, a wireless charger and a reversing camera. The Iconic version also adds a fold-out table so you can dine indoors when the rain inevitably arrives.
Under the bonnet, Renault keeps things familiar with Blue dCi diesel engines:
• 150 hp Blue dCi with a manual gearbox or the new EAG9 automatic,
• 170 hp Blue dCi paired exclusively with the EAG9 auto.
Two lengths, two power outputs, two gearboxes. Simple.
Inside, the Escapade is equipped with everything needed to make life on the road comfortable rather than merely bearable:
• an 8-inch Easy Link infotainment system,
• wireless smartphone mirroring,
• the cavernous Easy Life storage drawer,
• automatic climate control,
• the latest generation of driver-assistance systems,
• and two swivelling front seats that face a wide fold-out bed.
In other words, you drive, park, swivel the seats, and you’re home.
Renault emphasises that the Trafic Escapade is officially certified as a camper van under the SPV classification. In practice, that means it’s not just a van with a mattress thrown in, but a legitimate motorhome — paperwork and all.
Production takes place in Sandouville, France, where Renault promises solid build quality and durability. After all, the one thing a camper van must never do is turn its cupboards into a percussion set on gravel roads.
The Renault Trafic Escapade will go on sale across Europe in early 2026. Prices will be announced closer to launch.
