The announcement was made during a ceremony organized by the European Car of the Year jury at the Brussels Motor Show in Belgium.
In the first round of voting last November, the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, alongside the Alpine A290, secured a spot as one of the seven finalists. Other contenders included the Alfa Romeo Junior, Citroën ë-C3/C3, Cupra Terramar, Dacia Duster, Hyundai Inster, and Kia EV3.
The jury, composed of 60 automotive journalists from 23 countries, awarded the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric and the Alpine A290 the top spot with 353 points. Renault's new electric vehicle is the brand's eighth to earn the prestigious Car of the Year title, joining an illustrious lineup that includes the Renault 16 (1966), Renault 9 (1982), Clio I (1991), Scénic (1997), Mégane (2003), Clio II (2006), and Scénic E-Tech Electric (2024).
In 2024, Renault breathed new life into its iconic R5 with a fully electric version.
The entry-level model will hit the market this year with a starting price of €25,000 before government incentives, where applicable.
For over a decade, Renault has been dedicated to making electric mobility accessible to everyone. Following the successful launches of the Mégane and Scénic in the C-segment, Renault is expanding its E-Tech electric lineup into the B-segment with the Renault 5 and the Renault 4, both set to debut later this year.
