Opel Unveils Second Generation Grandland with Hybrid and Electric Variants

Opel has introduced the second generation of the Grandland, unveiling three versions including hybrids and an electric variant.

The second-generation Opel Grandland has undergone significant changes: the front end features the company’s 3D Vizor design, illuminated strips run along the front and back of the vehicle, the emblem is now lit in white, and the Opel name at the rear in red. The model is equipped with advanced matrix lights, each consisting of 25,600 elements, which illuminate brighter and highlight objects on the road without blinding other drivers. Additionally, the new Grandland is larger than its predecessor, with a more spacious interior and a trunk capacity increased by 36 liters.

Inside, the new Grandland boasts a 16-inch multimedia system screen, a digital dashboard behind the steering wheel, a heads-up display, climate control operated via physical buttons, and seats that hold a German orthopedic certification (AGR). Side deflectors have been integrated into the doors, visually enlarging the front panel. Among the innovative solutions is a wireless charging area for smartphones, located beneath the glass. Finally, rear passengers enjoy additional legroom and the rear seats fold in a 40:20:40 ratio, expanding the trunk capacity to 1641 liters.

The model is built on Stellantis's STLA Medium platform, shared with the Peugeot 3008, which accommodates both internal combustion engines and electric motors with batteries. The base version of the Opel SUV features a mild-hybrid system with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine and a 48-volt starter-generator. A step up is the full hybrid, which can travel up to 85 kilometers on pure electric power, though it will be available for sale later. The most expensive will be the fully electric Grandland.

All technical specifications of the new Opel will be released in the coming months, as the start of sales in Europe is scheduled for autumn 2024. In the UK, the model will traditionally be sold under the Vauxhall brand.
