The Opel Mokka GSE, the brand’s quickest series production electric car to date, has won Germany’s Das Goldene Lenkrad in the small car category. The electric and decidedly sporty crossover brings a hint of Opel’s rally heritage to public roads and impressed both Auto Bild readers and the experts who put it through its paces at Lausitzring.

Its fully electric powertrain produces 207 kilowatts, the equivalent of 281 horsepower. Torque of 345 newton metres reaches the wheels instantly. The car sprints from zero to one hundred kilometres an hour in 5.9 seconds and tops out at 200 kilometres an hour. A 54 kilowatt hour battery gives a WLTP range of only 336 kilometres, a modest figure that underlines the GSE’s clear focus on performance.

The exterior and cabin lean heavily on motorsport cues. GSE branded elements, bespoke wheels and yellow four piston brake calipers set a confident stance. Inside, the mood continues with Alcantara sports seats with integrated headrests, a flat bottomed steering wheel, aluminium pedals and generous equipment that includes Intelli Lux matrix headlights and a reversing camera with a one hundred eighty degree view.

In the broader picture, the Opel Mokka GSE fits neatly into a trend. Compact electric crossovers are shifting toward a more athletic identity. Opel uses the language of rallying with some finesse and offers series production performance that brushes the territory once occupied by classic hot hatchbacks. Europe’s electric car market no longer rewards silent efficiency alone. A touch of adrenaline helps.
