Opel to Showcase Mysterious Electric Sports Car in Munich
Opel has dropped the first hints about a new sporty concept car, set for its official debut this September at the IAA Mobility show in Munich. The model will join the brand’s freshly minted GSE (Grand Sport Electric) sub-line, tasked with creating Opel’s most powerful and emotionally charged vehicles.
From the teaser fragments, it’s impossible to piece together a full silhouette — even the body style remains under wraps. Still, the bright yellow paintwork, silver accents, and aggressive details leave no doubt about the car’s performance ambitions. Opel confirms the prototype will feature a high-output, fully electric powertrain.
A peek inside reveals a steering wheel flattened at both the top and bottom, along with a minimalist, racing-inspired layout. There also appears to be a roll cage–style structure, suggesting a machine equally at home on track days. Opel emphasizes that even if this particular car never reaches production, it will serve as a milestone in shaping the brand’s future design language and inspire upcoming models.
The GSE line is still in its infancy: in May, Opel unveiled its first entry, the Mokka GSE Rally crossover concept, which could hit production by year’s end. The new concept bound for Munich aims higher, offering a vision of what an electric “racing Opel” could look like in the near future.
According to Opel’s chief designer, the goal is to blend the brand’s engineering heritage with the raw performance potential of the electric era. Exactly what lies under the hood — and how close it is to production — will be revealed at IAA Mobility in September.
