British exhaust specialist Milltek has launched an updated performance system for the Audi RS4 B7, whose 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 has long been celebrated as one of the marque’s finest engines. The new V2 system uses modern technology and an active centre H-pipe to create a distinctly different sound depending on whether Sport mode is engaged or not.
With Sport mode off, the H-pipe valve opens, allowing exhaust gases from both cylinder banks to mix, while the rear valves close to route the flow through the silencers. The result is a restrained, smooth tone. Switch Sport mode on, and the H-pipe valve shuts to create two separate flow paths, the rear valves open, and the sound bypasses the silencers entirely — producing a noticeably louder and more aggressive note.
The factory valve control is retained, so the steering wheel button activates Sport mode exactly as on the stock model, but Milltek’s system delivers a far richer sonic character.
Constructed from T304L stainless steel, the exhaust comes with a lifetime guarantee for the original purchaser. Milltek keeps the RS4’s signature oval tips but offers four finishes: polished stainless steel, black Cerakote-coated stainless, brushed titanium and burnt titanium.
For European customers requiring EC approval, the previous V1 system remains available, offering improved tone while staying within official noise limits.
According to Milltek’s head of technical operations, Kev Hall, the new exhaust is “a Jekyll and Hyde proposition — quiet and cultured with Sport off, wild and liberating when the valves are fully open.”
