These vehicles are built on the entirely new VAN.EA platform, short for the Mercedes-Benz Van Electric Architecture. This modular structure enables flexible adaptation of both vehicle length and drivetrain configurations, offering a choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants. These electric vans are expected to hit the market in 2026.<br><br>Mercedes-Benz Vans is gearing up for the next stage of its electrification strategy. The new VAN.EA platform is designed to distinctly separate future electric vans into two categories—commercial vehicles and passenger models. This means that the upcoming V-Class will cater to a variety of needs, from practical family shuttles to luxurious VIP transporters. Just like the current lineup, the future models will offer a wide range of configurations to suit diverse user preferences and demands.<br><br>The platform's designation—either "C" for commercial or "P" for passenger—will clarify its purpose. The unique aspect of this platform is that while the front module remains largely uniform, the middle and rear sections can be adjusted based on specific needs. For instance, an additional electric motor can be integrated to enable all-wheel drive, or the vehicle’s length can be extended to accommodate more passengers or cargo.<br><br>Although the official market launch is still a few years away, Mercedes-Benz is already promising a comprehensive driver assistance package for these new vans, which will comply with SAE Level 2 autonomy. This means the vehicles will be capable of assisting drivers in certain scenarios and performing partial driving tasks. By 2030, the company aims to upgrade to SAE Level 4 autonomy, enabling a much higher degree of self-driving capability, particularly in complex traffic situations.<br><br>The new electric vans will feature a choice of front or all-wheel drive, the latest generation multimedia system, and an 800-volt battery pack. Additionally, they will come equipped with a 22 kW onboard charger, allowing for efficient recharging from standard power outlets. In June, the company tested separate components—including chassis, powertrains, batteries, and high-voltage electronics—in Germany. The next step involves evaluating the integration of all these systems together, followed by winter testing in Sweden later this year.<br><br>For Mercedes-Benz, this platform represents a new era, signaling a shift away from traditional diesel vans to a future of silent, powerful, and environmentally friendly electric vans. The models hitting the market in 2026 are just the beginning. In the years to come, Mercedes-Benz plans to expand and refine its electric van lineup to meet the diverse needs of both everyday users and business clients.
