Mercedes-AMG’s New GT: Another V8, Another Lap-Time Hunter
On July 25, Mercedes-AMG unveiled yet another chapter in its increasingly familiar saga of extreme, track-honed sports cars—the CONCEPT AMG GT TRACK SPORT. Beneath the careful phrasing and camouflaged panels lies a predictable message: more horsepower, more circuit ambition, another GT.
According to the press release, the car is engineered “without compromise” and for “top-level dynamics,” which in AMG-speak almost certainly means a classic V8 engine paired with a track-optimized setup. It’s unlikely to be street-legal—this is a pricey toy built for track-day purists and collectors.
The first teaser images show a body wrapped in tape, with a name—TRACK SPORT—that drops any pretense: this isn’t a Grand Tourer, it’s a stopwatch weapon built for Nürburgring glory.
The second-generation AMG GT series, launched in 2023, has been slowly expanding. But this concept feels more like a reminder than a revelation—that even at the top of the performance pyramid, competition is fierce, and Mercedes wants to make sure we remember they still know how to build a real sports car.
