Discover the New Maserati GranCabrio – Same Luxury, Now More Attainable
Maserati has expanded its GranCabrio lineup with a more affordable base model, unveiled at the Concours d’Elegance in St. Moritz, Switzerland. This new variant maintains the model’s signature exclusivity and sportiness, while offering a more competitive price point.
Reduced Power, But No Compromise on Luxury Features
Unlike its high-performance Trofeo sibling, the base GranCabrio does not carry any additional badge but is still powered by a 3.0-liter V6 Nettuno engine. However, its output is slightly reduced to 490 hp and 600 Nm (compared to Trofeo’s 550 hp and 650 Nm).
Despite the power reduction, key performance features remain untouched. The all-wheel-drive system, 8-speed automatic transmission, and adaptive air suspension are all part of the standard package. The car also retains premium comfort options like a wind deflector, ventilated seats, and a heads-up display.
Slightly Slower, But Significantly More Affordable
0–100 km/h acceleration: 3.9 seconds (versus 3.6 seconds in the Trofeo).
Top speed: Reduced from 316 km/h to 302 km/h, but still within elite sports car territory.
Price cut: The base GranCabrio starts at €170,000, making it €40,000 cheaper than the GranCabrio Trofeo, a near 20% reduction.
A Strong Competitor in the Luxury Sports Car Market
For a high-performance AWD convertible, a price tag of €170,000 is quite competitive—especially when compared to the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet, which starts at €200,000. Maserati’s new offering aims to attract buyers who seek a blend of Italian luxury and driving thrill at a slightly lower cost.
Can the New Model Help Reverse Maserati’s Sales Decline?
Maserati has been struggling in the European market, with sales dropping by 40% in 2024. The decline is largely attributed to the discontinuation of Quattroporte and Ghibli sedans, as well as the Levante SUV. While the brand introduced the Grecale SUV, it has yet to establish itself as a best-seller.
With the GranCabrio base model, Maserati is betting on a stronger market presence, hoping to attract new buyers while maintaining the brand’s sporty elegance and exclusivity.
