Infiniti QX65 steps out of the shadows as the spirit of the FX returns on 26 March

The Infiniti QX65 has finally reached that familiar point where talk turns into pictures. The brand released the first official teaser of its new coupe SUV and confirmed a full reveal for 26 March 2026. Infiniti is speaking quite openly about a spiritual return for the old FX, which means this is not just another new roofline being wheeled into the premium market. It is trying to warm up an old emotion and sell it back to people in a more expensive suit.

What the first image actually shows

The teaser keeps much of the car politely in the dark, though not so politely that nothing can be learned from it. The QX65 clearly separates itself from its platform sibling, the QX60, at the front. There is a different bumper, a new grille pattern and a two tier lighting arrangement. Infiniti’s earlier QX65 Monograph concept points quite clearly to where the production car is heading, with a long, sporting roofline, a wide rear light bar and a shape that leans more heavily on stance than on practical cubic metres. In other words, the QX65 does not want to look like a sensible family purchase. It wants to be noticed.

The reveal comes at the end of March, showrooms get the real thing in April

Infiniti says the QX65 will make its debut on 26 March. After that, the car will appear in public at the New York Auto Show, which runs from 1 to 12 April. US sales are expected to begin in June, so Infiniti is not stretching the suspense out until autumn. It is trying to turn attention into actual orders while the mood still lasts.

The mechanical package expected so far

Early information suggests the Infiniti QX65 will use a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine paired with a nine speed automatic gearbox, while four wheel drive will remain on the options list. Output is expected to land at 272 hp, or about 200 kW. Car and Driver reports that the US version may begin at 268 hp, which sounds less like a real contradiction and more like the usual tangle of differing measurement standards. Either way, the picture is much the same. At launch, there will likely be a moderately punchy four cylinder version, with a 3.5 litre V6 arriving later and pushing beyond 300 hp, or roughly 221 kW. The possibility of a Red Sport model also remains on the table, because leaning on FX nostalgia without some sort of performance halo would feel only half committed.

Why the QX65 matters more than usual

The QX65 is being described as Infiniti’s first genuinely new arrival since 2021. The brand needs a model that brings back a little character and a little visibility, because in the premium market it stopped being enough long ago to offer a large grille and soft leather. If Infiniti really wants to remind buyers of the years when the FX made people rethink their shortlist, the QX65 has to be more than a QX60 with a more elegant roof.

Infiniti is using the coupe SUV formula to add more emotion and a higher price tag to a more ordinary platform. The trick itself is hardly new. What has changed is how much harder it is to sell convincingly. In this class, a falling roofline no longer does the whole job. Buyers expect a clear identity as well. Infiniti finally seems to understand that, which is already a modest step forward.
