Hyundai Unveils New Hydrogen Fuel Cell Concept Car INITIUM

Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled its new hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) concept named INITIUM, offering a glimpse into a new production-bound fuel cell vehicle that Hyundai plans to introduce in the first half of next year. This concept brings together the company's 27 years of experience in developing hydrogen technology.

INITIUM also marks the debut of Hyundai's new design language called "Art of Steel".

The development of the model focused on three main aspects:

1. Driving Range and Performance – The car is equipped with large hydrogen tanks that provide a driving range of over 650 km on a single refueling. Aerodynamic wheels and low rolling resistance tires reduce air resistance and improve fuel efficiency.

2. Interior and Luggage Space – The large reclining angle of the second-row seats ensures greater comfort for passengers. The wide body and large rear door opening angle make getting in and out of the car more convenient.

3. Comfort and Safety Features – The car's electric motor power reaches up to 150 kW, ensuring smooth acceleration. INITIUM also includes a special route planner for hydrogen cars, which helps find refueling stations along the way without the need to use a separate application.

In addition, INITIUM's hydrogen fuel cell can produce electricity without emissions. Using the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, this electricity can be used to power and charge various household appliances and personal devices. The outdoor terminal is designed to connect directly to a 220V household outlet.

Hyundai plans to showcase INITIUM in more detail at the Los Angeles Auto Show and Auto Guangzhou taking place in November. The production version of the model is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2025.
