Great Wall Wants to Build Something That Will Make the Ferrari SF90 Blush

Great Wall Motors — once known primarily for producing budget-friendly SUVs — is now quietly crafting a supercar whose ambition isn’t just grand, it’s outright audacious. The goal: to outperform the Ferrari SF90. And if the company’s technical director is to be believed, this isn’t a pipe dream — it’s a project five years in the making, one that might just make Nürburgring echo in Mandarin.

GWM’s technical chief, Wu Huixiao, recently hinted at the project, stating that this won’t be just another car — it’s meant to deliver an “adrenaline rush” in every curve and with every acceleration. The vehicle will be built around a carbon fiber monocoque — a structural choice that has proven to be a technical nightmare so far, as no Chinese company has yet mastered composite production at this level. That, Wu explains, is the reason the car remains under wraps. But development continues. And the final result, she promises, will be “stunning.”

Most likely, the new model will be a hybrid with a combustion engine — unlike BYD’s fully electric hypercar, the U9. Which means this machine won’t arrive with a whisper, but with a roar. Explosive, visceral, unapologetically loud — just as a proper supercar should be.

No Nürburgring lap records were promised, but Wu did mention the involvement of top-tier European motorsport experts, hinting that this isn’t a theoretical rocket — it’s one that’s meant to be tested on tarmac.

There’s no price tag, no launch date — just intent. But one thing is clear: Great Wall doesn’t want to merely build cars anymore. They want to etch their name into the annals of automotive history. And if all goes according to plan, that chapter will be written in fire, thunder, and carbon fiber.
