CUPRA Begins a New Chapter with the Production of the Terramar SUV in Hungary

CUPRA, the dynamic and fast-growing challenger brand, has embarked on a new phase with the production launch of its latest model, the CUPRA Terramar. Manufactured at Audi's facility in Györ, Hungary, this sporty SUV represents a significant step for the brand as it aims to strengthen its position in the premium SUV segment—currently the fastest-growing market in Europe. The introduction of the Terramar will also expand CUPRA’s appeal to a new generation of enthusiasts, referred to as the "Tribe."

From Martorell to Györ: A Longstanding Partnership

CUPRA's collaboration with Audi is not new; it dates back to 2011 when SEAT S.A., CUPRA's parent company, began producing the Audi Q3 at its Martorell factory in Spain. Over the years, nearly 800,000 units of the Q3 have been manufactured in Martorell, alongside almost 400,000 Audi A1 units since 2018. Now, the partnership takes a new turn with the production of the CUPRA Terramar, which marks Györ as the first Audi factory to manufacture vehicles from a sister brand.

The Györ plant itself is an engineering powerhouse. Employing over 12,000 people, the facility produces more than 170,000 vehicles annually and boasts the world’s largest engine production output, surpassing 1.6 million engines per year. By choosing Györ for the production of the Terramar, CUPRA leverages a number of strategic advantages, including process efficiency and optimization. This milestone has been made possible by seamless cooperation between the CUPRA and Audi teams, which have been working closely together for over four years to bring this model to market.

The CUPRA Terramar: A New Hero for a New Era

The CUPRA Terramar holds symbolic significance for the brand. It is named after the Terramar race circuit in Sitges, Spain, where CUPRA made its global debut in 2018. The new SUV was officially unveiled at the America’s Cup event in Barcelona earlier this month, and it is poised to become a flagship model for the brand.

Available in petrol, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants, the CUPRA Terramar offers flexibility for diverse consumer preferences. Adding to its appeal, the SUV comes in nine distinct color options, two of which are exclusive matte finishes—Century Bronze Matt and Enceladus Grey Matt—specifically developed for this model at the Györ plant.

This new production venture underscores CUPRA’s commitment to innovation and its ambition to challenge the status quo in the automotive world. By blending performance, sustainability, and striking design, the CUPRA Terramar is set to become a pivotal model, symbolizing both the brand's heritage and its forward-thinking approach.
