BYD Atto 3 Crosses One Million Mark: China’s Electric SUV Goes Global

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has announced that sales of its Atto 3 SUV have surpassed one million units since its market debut in February 2022. This compact electric crossover, now available in over 110 countries, has become the flagship of BYD’s global expansion.

The Atto 3 is offered in two trim levels, Comfort and Design. Built on BYD’s dedicated e-Platform 3.0 and powered by its proprietary Blade battery technology, the model features a 60.4 kWh battery that delivers a combined range of up to 420 kilometers, stretching to 565 kilometers in urban conditions. Its electric motor produces 150 kW (204 horsepower), propelling the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. Average energy consumption stands at 15.6 kWh per 100 kilometers.

Earlier this year, the Atto 3 received a mild facelift, bringing subtle exterior tweaks and chassis enhancements. Fast charging capacity was also upgraded to 110 kW, allowing a 10 to 80 percent recharge in 35 minutes—a figure that sits squarely in the middle of a highly competitive segment.

While the Atto 3 has secured top spots in sales charts across several markets, its global appeal rests more on accessibility and pricing than on cutting-edge technology or premium refinement. It’s a solid and capable workhorse, offering sufficient practicality and comfort without pushing boundaries in design or innovation.
