One Third of the Next-Generation Chevrolet Corvette Has Been Unveiled
With the next-generation Corvette, General Motors is taking a rather unconventional – almost curatorial – approach. Instead of revealing a single concept, we’re getting a trilogy. Three design studios. Three very different visions. And the first one? It comes not from Detroit, but from across the Atlantic. From Britain.
Yes, the British have designed a Corvette. Which, depending on your perspective, is either wonderfully unexpected or slightly baffling – like asking a Frenchman to design a revolver. Elegant, certainly. Perhaps curved. Possibly accompanied by a glass of red wine. But here we are: the first glimpse of what could become the C9 Corvette has arrived, and it’s inspired by the iconic C2 Sting Ray of the mid-1960s.
Split front and rear glass? Check. Gullwing-style doors? Absolutely. The concept features a dramatic aerodynamic body kit, sharp L-shaped LED headlights, and an interior dominated by a near-rectangular steering wheel that would look more at home on a PlayStation controller than in a traditional sports car.
And what about the technical specs? Well... there aren’t any. Not yet. GM has revealed nothing about the powertrain, platform, or performance – a bit like walking into a restaurant, seeing “Surprise” on the menu, and the waiter refusing to say whether it’s even edible.
But there’s more to come. Throughout 2025, two additional Corvette design concepts will be unveiled – one from Los Angeles and another from Detroit. If all goes to plan, the final production model will likely blend elements from all three: British flair, Californian showmanship, and (hopefully) a dose of Detroit-bred V8 thunder.
What we do know is that the next-generation Corvette will retain its internal combustion engine and mid-engine layout – a rare thing in today’s increasingly electrified world. It will be built on an evolved version of the Y2 platform, suggesting that this isn’t just a pretty design exercise. It’s going somewhere. And quite possibly, very fast.
