VDX – this is roughly what the BMWs of tomorrow will look like
At the Shanghai Auto Show, BMW unveiled its latest concept sedan, the VDX (Vision Driving Experience) – a striking preview of the Neue Klasse electric flagship, blending retro-futuristic styling, sci-fi-worthy interior design, and formidable technology.
Visually, the VDX echoes the Vision Neue Klasse concept but ups the ante with 3D light-rendered kidney grilles, an aggressive front splitter, and a shark-nose front end. Inside, the futuristic Panoramic iDrive X dominates, with diagonally placed screens and a flat four-spoke steering wheel that looks like it belongs in a starship.
Underneath it all, the brains of the operation is a new supercomputer called “Heart of Joy”, which orchestrates braking, steering, energy regeneration, and overall dynamics. The powertrain delivers a wheel torque of up to 18,000 Nm, with 1.2 tonnes of aerodynamic downforce and lateral acceleration up to 3g — enough to challenge both your reflexes and your facial muscles.
The first Neue Klasse production model, the crossover Vision Neue Klasse X, arrives later this year, while the VDX is slated for 2026.
