BMW’s Last Stand: The M2 CS Rebels Against the Electric Tide
The 2025 BMW M2 CS, unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, stands as a defiant testament to BMW's commitment to pure driving pleasure in an era increasingly dominated by electrification. This limited-production model, with only 2,000 units planned, encapsulates the essence of the M division's philosophy: performance, precision, and passion.
Under the hood lies a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, delivering 523 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. This power propels the M2 CS from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 303 km/h. Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, a choice that prioritizes performance and precision over traditional manual engagement.
Visually, the M2 CS commands attention with its aggressive design cues. A carbon fibre-reinforced plastic ducktail spoiler, matte Gold Bronze 827M wheels, and an exposed carbon fibre rear diffuser not only enhance aesthetics but also contribute to weight reduction. The vehicle's weight stands at 1,710 kg, 44 kg lighter than the standard M2, thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre components.
Inside, the cabin is a blend of sportiness and sophistication. Carbon bucket seats wrapped in black Merino leather, an Alcantara-covered steering wheel with a red 12 o’clock marker, and illuminated CS badges create an environment focused on the driving experience. Despite its track-ready nature, the M2 CS retains rear seats, ensuring everyday usability.
The M2 CS is available in three standard colours: Black Sapphire, Brooklyn Grey, and Portimao Blue. For those seeking exclusivity, Velvet Blue Metallic is offered as an Individual colour option. Pricing starts at $99,775, with optional carbon-ceramic brakes available for an additional $8,500.
As BMW transitions towards electrification, the M2 CS serves as a poignant reminder of the brand's storied history in crafting vehicles that deliver unfiltered driving joy. It is a celebration of mechanical excellence, a swan song for the internal combustion era, and a collector's dream.
