BMW Stages the Future: iX3 and Neue Klasse Take the Spotlight in Munich
Since the pandemic, no major car show has managed to reclaim its former glory. The event that once filled Frankfurt’s exhibition halls has settled into its new home in Munich, now primarily a stage for German marques and their subsidiaries. Still, there’s hope that the future holds more promise.
BMW has unveiled its exhibition plans, centering its public showcase in front of the Munich Opera House, where the new iX3 will debut as the first representative of the Neue Klasse. The promises are bold: a revolutionary electric platform, 800-volt batteries, eye-tracking, a head-up display and a car that can feed electricity back into the grid.
For now, the iX3 remains a concept, not a finished product. Sharing the spotlight are familiar faces from MINI and Motorrad, dressed in slightly updated attire, with a strong emphasis on the narrative of circular economy.
Offering a break from the buzz, the BMW Museum delivered a dose of digital nostalgia, inviting visitors to explore the brand’s history through a contactless web app — now a standard gesture in these touch-averse times.
