This summer, BMW is doubling down on its commitment to A2-category motorcycles—machines tailored for new or restricted-license riders who still crave more than just entry-level blandness. The German brand’s lineup spans sporty roadsters, city-smart scooters, and even electric options, all engineered to deliver real riding character without overwhelming newcomers.

Leading the charge are the F 900 R and F 900 XR. Both offer 70 kW engines that can be A2-compliant with power restrictions—but not neutered of excitement. The F 900 R delivers agile, road-hugging performance for those drawn to sporty precision. The XR variant adds touring comfort and long-distance readiness, ideal for riders looking to break free from urban limits.

On the urban front, C 400 X stands out as a compact, nimble solution for city life, powered by a 25 kW engine and priced under €8,000. For more protection and plushness, the C 400 GT steps in with better wind shielding and a touch of premium. Both cater to riders who prefer floorboards over fuel tanks and carry no prejudice against the practicality of scooters.

For those leaning electric, BMW offers the CE 02 and CE 04. The CE 04, in particular, makes a strong statement in urban mobility, combining futuristic design with punchy torque that gives it the feel of a full-fledged motorcycle.

And for classic purists, the R 12 and R 12 nineT come in A2-legal versions, echoing mid-century mechanics in both form and soul—machines that nod to the past while meeting modern-day standards.

With this broad, character-rich range, BMW is sending a clear message: the A2 license doesn’t mean settling for less—it means starting strong.
