Which Name Will Bentley Choose for Its New Luxury Electric SUV?
Bentley has registered two new trademarks—Barnato and Mayon—one of which is expected to be the name of its upcoming luxury electric SUV, set to debut in 2026. Recent filings with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) suggest that Bentley is preparing to launch a model positioned below the Bentayga while retaining the brand’s signature power and opulence.
Barnato – A Tribute to Bentley’s Racing Heritage
The name Barnato likely honors Woolf Barnato, one of Bentley’s most renowned drivers from the 1920s, who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times in a row. Besides his racing success, Barnato was a key investor in Bentley, helping the brand navigate financial struggles and develop new models. If chosen, this name would reinforce Bentley’s connection to its racing legacy and Grand Tourer spirit.
Mayon – A Volcanic Inspiration?
The meaning behind Mayon is less obvious, but it may refer to the Mayon Volcano in the Philippines. Bentley has a history of naming its models after geographical landmarks, such as the Bentayga, which takes its name from the Roque Bentayga rock formation in the Canary Islands. If this pattern continues, Mayon could symbolize natural power, dynamism, and elegance—perfect qualities for a high-performance electric SUV.
"Baby Bentayga" – Not So Small After All
Despite being dubbed the "Baby Bentayga" by the media, the new model will be far from compact. Reports suggest it will measure almost five meters in length, making it a spacious and imposing SUV. The vehicle will be fully electric, aligning with Bentley’s long-term electrification strategy.
