Audi has unveiled the new A6 sedan… well, almost

Audi. The name alone is like a love letter written in aluminium, signed by the gods of German engineering and sealed with obsessive precision. And now, the moment has nearly arrived – Audi is preparing to reveal the next-generation A6 sedan, the four-door sibling of the estate version that’s already been silently prowling the roads like a sharply dressed accountant with a secret wild side.

April 15th. Mark it in your calendar. That’s when we’ll finally see the whole car – not just the rear end. For now, Audi has gifted us a single teaser image of the taillights, which, naturally, are OLED and stretch across the entire rear like a glowing rainbow of Teutonic restraint.

Engines? Still under wraps. But not really. Expect the same lineup as the wagon: a 2.0 TFSI petrol, a 2.0 TDI diesel, both fitted with a 48-volt something-or-other called “MHEV Plus” – which sounds like an iPhone update, but is actually a clever way of saving a few drops of fuel while looking smugly eco-conscious. At the top of the food chain is the 3.0-litre V6 TFSI with 367 horsepower and just enough noise to remind you that you haven’t completely surrendered your soul to corporate spreadsheets.

Transmission? Of course it’s a seven-speed dual-clutch robot. Because finding an A6 with a manual gearbox is about as likely as stumbling into a restaurant without some form of brownie on the dessert menu. And yes, quattro all-wheel-drive is present, because of course it is – this is Audi we’re talking about.

The price? Still a mystery. But given that the Avant starts at €58,000, it’s safe to say the sedan won’t exactly be a bargain-bin family saloon. No, this is a car for someone whose tie is ironed to a sharper crease than your bedsheets.
