Aston Martin’s Ultra-Rare DBZ Duo Heads to Auction in Monterey

Come mid-August, when the classic car world descends on sun-soaked Monterey, California, something truly rare will cross the auction block: one of only 19 Aston Martin DBZ Centenary Collection sets ever made. This is not just a car, but a curated pair—two machines that celebrate over 60 years of design alchemy between Aston Martin and Zagato. One half is a 1960s-inspired DB4 GT Zagato; the other, a futuristic DBS GT Zagato. Both were built in 2019 and sold exclusively as a duo for £6.1 million. Every set is long spoken for and tucked away in private collections.

The DB4 GT Zagato isn’t a retro-themed reissue—it’s a hand-built homage assembled over 4,500 hours at Aston Martin’s historic Newport Pagnell facility. It’s a time capsule with Smiths gauges on a crinkle-black panel, a wooden steering wheel, a race-spec non-synchro gearbox, and Borrani wire wheels. But under the bonnet sits a modernized 4.7-liter straight-six producing 390 horsepower—a reminder this beauty is more than a museum piece.

Its contemporary counterpart, the DBS GT Zagato, is a wild leap into the present: carbon fiber bodywork, Zagato’s trademark double-bubble roof, an active front grille, 3D-printed interior elements, and a 760-horsepower twin-turbo V12. It also happens to be the first Aston Martin to feature 3D-printed metal trim—one of which cost $33,000 to produce.

This Caribbean Pearl-finished pair is being offered by Broad Arrow Auctions during the Monterey Jet Center event. The estimated price range? Between $3.5 and $4.5 million—a notable drop from the original sticker, which may tempt collectors who were left out in 2019.
