Alpine Unveils a Three-Motor Electric Fastback

Alpine, the performance-focused subsidiary of Renault Group, has introduced something completely new and unexpected—the Alpine A390_β, a five-door electric fastback that combines everyday practicality with the heart of a sports car. The model is set to enter production next year.

Design and Inspiration

The Alpine A390_β marks a new direction for the brand, showcasing their vision for the future. While this fastback is engineered for daily driving, it retains the ability to transform into a "racing beast" reminiscent of the iconic Alpine A110 coupe. The design takes inspiration from nature, particularly the peaks of the Alps and the textures of rocks and minerals.

In its name, the number "3" refers to the car's size, "90" signifies Alpine's lineup of everyday vehicles (while their sports cars use the number "10"), and the Greek letter β signals the vehicle’s beta development phase, approaching its final production version.

Bold, Aerodynamic Exterior

The A390_β stands out with its sculpted bodywork, which lacks a central pillar, enhancing its flowing design. Frameless doors add a sleek touch, while the rear light strip extends up to 80 mm to reduce drag and boost aerodynamics. The triangular LED headlights, called Cosmic Dust, offer a futuristic look.

Inspired by snowflakes, the wheels measure an impressive 22 inches at the front and 23 inches at the rear, contributing to its strong, sporty stance. Alpine has confirmed that at least 85% of the concept’s design will carry over to the production version.

Futuristic Interior and Technology

Inside, the A390_β features bucket seats and a racing-style steering wheel. A unique feature is the triangular crystal key, which is placed in the center of the wheel to start the car, creating a ritualistic and exclusive driving experience.

The car is powered by three electric motors—one on the front axle and two at the rear, each driving a wheel. This setup offers precise all-wheel-drive control and incorporates Active Torque Vectoring, optimizing traction in various driving conditions.

Platform and Future Plans

While full technical specifications are yet to be revealed, the A390_β is expected to be built on the AmpR Medium platform, previously known as CMF-EV. This is the same platform used for other electric models like the Renault Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya.

The A390_β will join Alpine's growing electric lineup alongside the A290 hatchback, with a future electric successor to the A110 also in the works.
