The Double-Tailed Dream: Zagato’s Alfa Romeo 8C DoppiaCoda Reimagines Italian Grandeur
While most spend their weekends tending to lawns or perfecting barbecue recipes, Milanese design house Zagato chose to resurrect an icon of Italian automotive culture. At the 2025 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, they unveiled the singular Alfa Romeo 8C DoppiaCoda Zagato—a bespoke creation that melds classic elegance with contemporary technology.
The term "DoppiaCoda," translating to "double tail," references the car's rear design, which fuses two of Zagato's signature elements: the truncated "Coda Tronca" and the rounded "Coda Tonda." The result is a visually striking and aerodynamically efficient form that nods to both historic racing cars and modern design sensibilities.
Though the DoppiaCoda exists solely as a one-off, it is based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. Beneath the hood lies a 4.7-liter V8 engine, delivering up to 450 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque. This power enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 4.2 seconds, reaching a top speed near 292 km/h.
Commissioned specifically for a collector, the DoppiaCoda stands as a true rarity. Its debut at Villa d’Este earned it the Concept Car Cup award, recognizing its design and uniqueness.
