Iconic British Sports Cars to Be Built in Former SAAB Factory
British automaker AC Cars has partnered with T-Engineering, a company founded by former SAAB engineers, to begin production of modern versions of the classic Cobra GT in Trollhättan. The factory will not only assemble coupes and roadsters but will also serve as a hub for the development of new models.
The former SAAB production facility, now owned by Stenhaga Invest, aims to revive car manufacturing in the region, create new jobs, and reignite the legacy of SAAB in Trollhättan. Through this collaboration, AC Cars gains access to highly skilled engineers with expertise in vehicle control systems and electrification, while Swedish specialists can once again put their knowledge to use, breathing new life into the historic plant.
The new Cobra GT, unveiled in 2023, is built on a lightweight tubular space frame with carbon fiber body panels. The lineup includes high-performance V8 engines with up to 810 horsepower, as well as a two-liter four-cylinder variant. The most powerful version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, with prices starting at £225,000.
With this ambitious venture, Trollhättan’s factory will once again become a key player in automotive innovation, blending British sports car heritage with Swedish engineering expertise.
