Volvo Unveils the New EX30 Cross Country – An Electric SUV Built for Adventure
Volvo has introduced the EX30 Cross Country, a fully electric compact SUV designed to tackle rougher terrains with confidence. Debuting in a winter resort in northern Sweden, the model was revealed in collaboration with outdoor gear brand Fjällräven.
Based on the successful EX30, the Cross Country edition takes durability and off-road capability up a notch. It’s built for those looking to escape city limits and explore the great outdoors. To handle tougher conditions, Volvo has equipped it with all-wheel drive, increased ground clearance, and optional 18-inch all-terrain tires for enhanced grip on uneven surfaces.
Carrying on a Legacy
Volvo introduced its first Cross Country model over 25 years ago, and the concept remains a core part of the brand’s DNA. The EX30 Cross Country continues this tradition, combining adventure-ready design with modern electric performance.
With an estimated range of up to 427 km (265 miles) on a single charge, this SUV is built for long journeys. Fast charging allows the battery to reach 10–80% in just 26 minutes, making it as convenient in remote locations as it is in urban environments.
The rugged exterior is more than just for show—Volvo has given the tailgate a darker finish and added a topographic map of Sweden’s Kebnekaise mountain range, reinforcing its explorer spirit.
Practical and Thoughtfully Designed Interior
Inside, the EX30 Cross Country is packed with clever storage solutions and user-friendly features:
Large door pockets provide extra space, thanks to integrated dashboard-mounted speakers.
A sliding center console adapts to different needs, doubling as a cup holder or additional storage compartment.
The rear features a removable, washable storage box that can even be used as a waste bin.
A built-in cargo guide in the trunk helps drivers visualize what will fit inside.
Smart Tech and Safety as Standard
As with all new Volvo models, the EX30 Cross Country comes with built-in Google apps, including Google Maps for seamless navigation. The Volvo app also allows owners to pre-heat the vehicle remotely, ensuring a warm and comfortable ride even in freezing conditions.
Advanced safety technology is a given in any Volvo, and the EX30 Cross Country is no exception. Equipped with intelligent braking and steering assistance, it helps drivers avoid collisions with pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles. A driver-monitoring system detects signs of fatigue or distraction, issuing alerts when necessary.
Adventure-Ready Accessories
To complement the SUV’s off-road capability, Volvo is offering a dedicated Cross Country accessory package. This includes roof rails, a roof-mounted cargo basket, all-terrain tires, and mud flaps—everything needed to fully embrace the outdoor lifestyle.
According to Volvo CEO Jim Rowan, the goal is to create a complete ecosystem around the EX30 Cross Country, supporting customers in their pursuit of adventure.
Volvo’s latest Cross Country model is now available for order in select markets, with first deliveries expected later this spring.
