Volvo EX90 Gains Fresh Edge: Flagship EV SUV Now Charges Faster and Thinks Smarter

Not long ago, charging an electric car felt more like a test of patience than a practical routine. Now Volvo has announced a major update to its flagship EX90, boosting both charging speed and onboard intelligence.

At the heart of the upgrade is a shift to an 800-volt architecture, paired with optimized software that raises charging power from 250 kW to 350 kW. The result is simple but striking: ten minutes on the plug now yields 250 kilometres of range—70 more than before—meaning less time waiting at charging stations and a tangible leap in real-world convenience.

Volvo also promises more powerful yet lighter electric motors, though details remain under wraps. Pricing information is similarly withheld, but order books are already open—evidence of the brand’s confidence in its flagship SUV.

The improvements go far beyond the charging curve. The EX90’s brain has been sharpened by two Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chips, delivering a combined 500 TOPS (trillion operations per second). That computational muscle enables the car to read road and environment at a far higher level: it can detect slippery surfaces, respond more accurately to night-time hazards, and, should the driver lose control, bring itself safely to the roadside while summoning emergency services.

Luxury touches haven’t been forgotten either. In several markets, the EX90 will now feature an adjustable-transparency panoramic roof as standard, borrowed from the recently unveiled ES90, adding yet another layer of presence to Volvo’s most advanced SUV.
