Volkswagen’s unassuming city car, the Polo, just turned fifty and the brand made sure the milestone didn’t pass quietly. Starting July 12, German customers can order the exclusive Polo Edition 50, priced from €28,200.

This birthday edition builds on the Style trim but receives a generous helping of flair and substance: chrome pedal caps, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated sport seats, black headliner and adaptive suspension among the physical upgrades, plus a rearview camera, Discover Media infotainment system and selectable drive modes on the digital side.

For those craving more, a panoramic roof is available as an optional indulgence.

Under the hood, there are three powertrain options: a 95-horsepower engine with manual transmission, the same engine paired with an automated gearbox, and a peppier 116-horsepower version mated to a DSG automatic.

Volkswagen’s decision to keep the Polo alive post-Euro 7 regulations is a statement in itself - the future may be electric, but this combustion classic isn’t bowing out just yet. The MQB platform continues to evolve, and the Polo remains very much in the game.
