Youth, Electric Cars, and the Future: Nissan is Finding Its Dream Customers

If you thought young people were obsessed only with their smartphones, think again—Nissan and Economist Impact’s global survey confirms that the next big thing on their radar is electric cars. More than half of urban youth (57%) are ready to change their mobility habits in pursuit of a greener future.

At present, just 23% proudly own an electric vehicle (EV), but within the next decade, this figure is set to surge past 35%. In emerging cities, where air pollution is a daily struggle, a staggering 44% envision themselves behind the wheel of an EV soon. Meanwhile, their counterparts in developed cities remain a bit more hesitant (31%), primarily concerned about high costs.

But EVs are more than just a means of transportation—over 40% of respondents believe they will become an integral part of the energy grid, powering homes and even other vehicles. Nissan understands that success hinges on expanding charging infrastructure, advancing battery technology, and making EVs more affordable.

In the grand scheme of things, young people want electric cars because they prefer clean air to exhaust fumes. Nissan is going full throttle to turn this vision into reality. And while the scent of gasoline may stir nostalgia for some, it’s the whisper-quiet hum of an electric motor that will propel us into the future.
