Toyota Urban Cruiser – Small, Electric, and... Pretty Ordinary?
Toyota once had a compact crossover called the Urban Cruiser—it arrived with much fanfare and disappeared with none. Now, the name is back, hoping to be reborn as something small and clever, zipping through city streets like a bicycle courier. But in reality? It’s just another small electric SUV doing more or less the same thing as every other one.
Bigger than a Yaris Cross, but still compact
The Urban Cruiser is slightly larger than the Yaris Cross, yet still small enough that finding a parking spot in the city won’t feel like an archaeological expedition. A 2700 mm wheelbase ensures a reasonably spacious interior, and the sliding rear seat allows you to choose between more legroom or a bigger boot—a choice you may or may not care about.
And if interior mood lighting is something that keeps you awake at night, don't worry—it comes with a 12-color ambient lighting system, because apparently, that’s essential now.
How far and how fast?
🔹 49 kWh battery, FWD – 144 hp, up to 300 km range
🔹 61 kWh battery, FWD – 174 hp, up to 400 km range
🔹 61 kWh battery, AWD – 184 hp, up to 350 km range
So if you're planning a long trip, maybe bring a charger.
Technology & Safety – The Standard Kit
Because modern cars must now be semi-autonomous spaceships, Toyota has packed in the usual suspects:
✔ Collision Prevention System – in case you forget to brake.
✔ Adaptive Cruise Control – so your foot doesn’t get tired.
✔ Lane Departure Warning – because staying in your lane is apparently a struggle.
And, of course, a 10.25-inch driver display and a 10.1-inch multimedia screen, both compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto—because without them, no one would know how to operate a car anymore.
Is it special?
A 360-degree camera, JBL sound system, and electrically adjustable driver’s seat are all available as optional extras, but are they enough to make the Urban Cruiser stand out in a sea of similar small EVs? Debatable.
It lands in 2026.
