Toyota Unveils bZ7: A Tech-Laden Electric Flagship for China
For decades the Camry has worn the crown as Toyota’s sedan jewel, but in China that title is about to be challenged. Enter the bZ7, a vast all-electric sedan developed with Chinese tech giants Huawei, Xiaomi, and GAC, and poised to become the most advanced model in Toyota’s electric bZ lineup.
The production-ready Toyota bZ7, co-developed with GAC, has finally been shown in full after a first glimpse at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year. Official photos and technical details reveal a sedan of imposing dimensions and clear flagship ambitions, with sales scheduled to begin before year’s end.
At 5,130 mm long, 1,965 mm wide, and 1,506 mm tall, riding on a 3,020 mm wheelbase, the bZ7 towers over the Camry by nearly 20 centimeters in both length and wheelbase. Its size alone cements its role as the top tier in Toyota’s electric passenger car lineup.
The base version mounts a single rear-axle motor rated at 281 horsepower, good for a top speed of 180 km/h—numbers that lean more toward serene cruising than sporting aggression. Crucially, the car’s electronics come from Huawei, underscoring Toyota’s deepening integration with Chinese technology partners.
Battery capacity and range figures remain under wraps, but Toyota’s focus is clearly on connectivity and digital innovation. The bZ7 is the first Toyota to be fully integrated with Xiaomi’s ecosystem, allowing drivers to manage their smart homes and link the car seamlessly with personal devices. Driver assistance systems, meanwhile, have been developed in partnership with Momenta, one of China’s leading autonomous driving specialists.
Toyota also hints that similar design language will filter down to an enlarged, re-engineered Corolla for the Chinese market, though no launch date has been announced.
For now, the spotlight rests on the bZ7. With its vast size, cutting-edge partnerships, and bold ambitions, it is Toyota’s clearest declaration yet that the electric age is not on the horizon—it has already arrived.
