The World’s Most Popular Car Colors in 2024
A global analysis of automotive industry trends confirms that classic colors continue to dominate the car market. Chemical giant BASF has compiled a list of the most popular shades of 2024, revealing that white, black, and gray remain the top choices among buyers. However, significant changes have emerged among more vibrant colors – most notably, yellow’s popularity has nearly doubled, now accounting for 1.5% of all cars sold.
White Reigns Supreme
Unsurprisingly, white remains the most widely used car color globally, making up 34% of vehicles in 2024. Black holds a solid second place at 22%, while gray (17%) and silver (8%) round out the ranking of neutral tones.
The Rise of Yellow and the Shifts Among Chromatic Colors
Among brighter hues, blue – including various shades such as light blue, dark blue, and turquoise – continues to lead, representing 7% of all colorful cars. However, an interesting trend has emerged: while white, blue, and silver have seen a decline in popularity, black, gray, and yellow have gained traction.
Red maintains 4% of the market share, while green accounts for 2%. Less conventional colors, including beige, brown, orange, and purple, each hold 1%, whereas gold remains a rarity, seen on only 0.5% of vehicles.
Regional Color Preferences
Car color preferences vary significantly across different regions:
🔹 Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) – Neutral tones, especially white and black, continue to dominate. However, beige has made a notable comeback in Europe, doubling its market share.
🔹 North America – While interest in white and black cars has cooled, gray’s popularity has surged by 10%.
🔹 Asia – Black remains the top choice, but pastel yellow shades have been gaining traction. These soft tones, often associated with smart technologies and innovation, have found their way into the color palettes of many new car models.
A Balance Between Tradition and Emerging Trends
The latest automotive color trends indicate that classic shades like white, black, and gray will continue to dominate the industry. However, blue and yellow are on the rise, offering car buyers new ways to express their individuality and stay in tune with evolving design preferences.
