Subaru Extends Electric Vehicle Warranty to Ten Years
Starting with the 2026 model year, Subaru is launching a new warranty program called "Subaru Safe," which allows electric vehicle (EV) owners to extend their vehicle's coverage for up to ten years or 200,000 kilometers. The primary condition for the warranty is regular maintenance performed at authorized service centers.
Subaru Nordic AB announced the new strategy with the goal of dispelling consumer fears regarding the long-term durability and resale value of electric vehicles. While new technology often brings questions about component longevity, this program provides coverage even after the initial factory warranty expires.
Under this new model, the extension is not a one-time grant but a service-activated warranty. The system functions as follows:
Activation: Once the standard factory warranty expires, a new 12-month or 15,000 km warranty period is activated each time the vehicle undergoes scheduled maintenance at an authorized Subaru workshop.
Duration: This process can be repeated annually until the vehicle reaches ten years of age or the odometer shows 200,000 kilometers.
While service-activated warranty models have been used in the automotive industry before, they serve as a powerful argument in the EV segment to prove the longevity of batteries and electric drivetrains. Subaru believes this approach will help maintain higher residual values, as secondary buyers can be confident that the vehicle has been maintained strictly according to manufacturer guidelines.
The program applies automatically to all Subaru electric vehicles starting from the 2026 model year. For the owner, there are no additional obligations other than following the official maintenance schedule.
