Škoda Fabia 130: The Small Hatchback That Found Its Inner Racer
Škoda’s sensible supermini just grew a spine. The new Fabia 130 isn’t another trim-level tweak—it’s a genuine performance statement, celebrating both the brand’s 130th anniversary and the spirit of the legendary 130 RS rally car. What was once a modest family hatchback now wears its speed with conviction.
Under the hood sits a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine pushing out 177 horsepower (130 kW)—27 more than the standard 1.5 TSI evo2. Torque remains at 250 Nm, but it’s now available across a broader rev band. Power is sent to the front wheels through a recalibrated seven-speed dual-clutch transmission tuned for sharper, quicker shifts.
The payoff is immediate: 0–100 km/h in 7.4 seconds, shaving four-tenths off the Monte Carlo version’s time. Top speed climbs to 228 km/h, officially making this the fastest production Fabia ever built—matching the pace of a two-liter diesel Octavia and trailing its petrol sibling by just one kilometer per hour.
Handling received just as much attention. Engineers reworked the steering for greater precision and sportier feedback, while driver-assist systems were recalibrated to allow a hint of controlled rear-axle play—a first for any Fabia and a clear nod to enthusiasts who like their hatchbacks with attitude.
Visually, the Fabia 130 sets itself apart with gloss-black accents, unique 18-inch alloys, and dual exhaust tips. Inside, the upgrades continue: new sport seats, a revised steering wheel, and distinctive trim details that blend refinement with purpose.
Orders are open now, with first deliveries expected in December. Modest in size but ambitious in spirit, the Fabia 130 shows that even the most rational car in Škoda’s lineup can have a mischievous streak.
