High-Speed Leap Turns Seattle Car Chase into a Scene Straight from Hollywood
It looked less like an everyday police pursuit and more like a stunt scripted for the silver screen.
Seattle police have released footage of a brazen escape attempt involving a stolen car and the city’s University Bridge. Officers first spotted the vehicle but held off on launching an official chase. The drama escalated when the suspect found himself hemmed in near the bridge, where patrol units tried to cut off his exit.
What followed was nothing short of cinematic. The driver rammed through barriers and gunned the car across the bridge as it was partially raised, launching the vehicle into a brief airborne arc before slamming down on the far side. Against all odds, the car kept running, though badly battered and ultimately written off.
By the time officers located the vehicle later, the driver had vanished without a trace. Police say the investigation remains open, though it is hard to imagine the suspect will be able to keep such a spectacular stunt a secret for long.
